Less than two weeks apart, RSAC and HumanX 2026 covered the Agentic AI story from two different angles.
HumanX made AI feel practical. The conversation there was centered on what companies can actually build, deploy, and use in day-to-day work. AI agents have moved past the stage of futuristic concepts or lab experiments. They showed up as workflow tools, operating tools, customer-facing tools, and productivity tools. The focus was on execution.
This shift matters for the cybersecurity market. The 2026 RSA Conference covered the same story from the security angle. Once AI agents move from demo to workflow, the security questions get much more real. Someone has to know where these agents are, what they can access, how they behave, what data they touch, and how to intervene when things go wrong.
The Signal
The signal across HumanX and RSAC is that AI is becoming operational infrastructure, and cybersecurity vendors are starting to be judged on whether they have a real role in governing that infrastructure.
That changes the mainstream narrative. It is no longer enough to say you use AI in the product or that you have an AI assistant somewhere in the workflow. The market is starting to care more about where the focus is. Who can see agents. Who can govern their permissions. Who can monitor their behavior. Who can respond when those agents take action inside live environments.
That is where a handful of cybersecurity vendors stood out most clearly within the SCMI universe at RSAC. The list includes CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, Okta, Check Point, and SentinelOne. Their propositions felt more concrete and easier to place in the emerging control layer around agents. They were speaking in terms of runtime control, agent security, identity, governance, visibility, and response. That is a more strategic language than generic AI enablement.
HumanX showed how fast Agentic AI is becoming part of business execution. Keep in mind that this is a category that two years ago barely existed. Now is what everybody speaks about. RSAC showed that cybersecurity understands what follows from that. Once agents start acting inside real systems, the market gets more demanding.
Implications for investors
For investors, the first implication is that the market may start sorting cybersecurity vendors through a control-point lens.
Here’s what I mean. Many companies can now say they have an AI story. Fewer can explain clearly what role they play once AI becomes embedded in production workflows. Identity, governance, runtime security, observability, and agent-assisted operations are more meaningful categories than broad AI language because they map to real business problems that are starting to show up now.
That does not mean every company with a polished Agentic AI security message will become a winner. Marketing is never enough on its own. Still, the quality of the proposition matters. A vendor that can define its place clearly has a better chance of being pulled into actual budgets, actual architecture decisions, and eventually into valuation narratives. That is a more durable advantage than showing up with a collection of AI features that are hard to connect to clear operational needs.
The second implication is that dispersion inside cybersecurity may widen further. That possibility already matters for how we think about sector leadership. Some names are beginning to look structurally aligned with the agentic era. Others are active but still broader in how they frame their role. Fortinet, Zscaler, Tenable, Qualys, Cloudflare, and Varonis all have relevant propositions in this area, but their positioning currently feels broader and less tightly tied to the emerging agentic control layer than that of those like CrowdStrike or Palo Alto Networks.
That distinction may become more important as demand continues to move from curiosity to implementation. HumanX supports that view because it made the demand curve look much more immediate. People were talking about deployment, workflows, and operating models. Once that mindset becomes real inside businesses, security budgets tend to follow the problems that block adoption: governance, trust, and control.
Implications for vendors
For vendors, the message is pretty direct: the bar is getting higher.
As AI becomes more practical, buyers will ask sharper questions. They will want to know where agents are running, what systems they connect to, what permissions they hold, what data they can access, and how their behavior can be observed and constrained. That means security vendors need a much clearer answer to where they fit.
Broad AI messaging is going to lose force faster than many expect. The market can tolerate vague storytelling for a while when a technology is still in exploration mode. That patience fades once deployment starts. At that point, product positioning has to line up with real control needs: discovery, identity, permissions, visibility, auditability. Those are much easier for buyers to map to an actual problem.
Identity and governance look especially important here. Every agent introduces new credentials, new access paths, new API connections, and new delegated actions. That makes machine identity and agent governance more central than many vendors may have expected even a year ago. This part of the market still feels early, but the direction is getting easier to see.
Platform depth should help. Vendors with broader platforms can connect signals, controls, and enforcement in ways that point solutions will struggle to match. Even so, scale alone will not be enough. The proposition still has to be clear. Buyers need to see how the pieces fit together and why that matters to their deployment reality. In a market like this, clarity is part of the product.
There is also a timing issue. HumanX showed that AI adoption is moving into a more operational phase. Vendors do not have unlimited time to find the right positioning. The companies that can connect product, narrative, and real customer pain early may shape the category faster than those that continue speaking in general AI terms.
Bottom line
HumanX and RSAC 2026 made the next phase of the market easier to read.
AI is becoming practical faster than many governance models were designed to handle. That is starting to reshape cybersecurity around a more concrete set of questions: who owns visibility, who governs access, who controls runtime behavior, and who helps enterprises trust agents inside production environments. That creates a tougher test for vendors and a more useful filter for investors. The more valuable stories are starting to come from companies that can define a real control point around agents in a way that feels productized and operational. If that framing continues to hold, the next leg of differentiation inside cybersecurity may come from who becomes part of the operating layer of enterprise AI.
